Funding & Grants • Global Application Hub

One global mission. Multiple funding pathways.

SovereignAqua is structured as a global platform: a donor, philanthropic institution, corporate sponsor, public agency, research institution, community organization or other lawful funder may support an eligible programme, subject to its own requirements. Programme opportunities are not restricted to one country or region. Prospective members and implementation bodies may likewise come from different parts of the world.

Global application principle: The Foundation may pursue lawful funding opportunities for eligible programmes in different countries and regions. A member body's location does not automatically determine where grant funding can be used. Each proposal must be matched to the specific funder's applicant eligibility, geographic scope, programme purpose, eligible costs, safeguards, reporting rules and agreement terms.

Fund Wherever Eligible

Support may be directed toward qualifying programmes in different regions of the world where a funding source permits it.

Global Membership

Prospective members and member bodies from different jurisdictions can propose programmes for consideration. Membership alone does not guarantee funding or grant eligibility.

Grant Matching

Every proposal is screened for geography, applicant status, thematic fit, budget limits, due diligence, safeguards, monitoring and evidence before submission.

Funding Levels

Different programme sizes require different funding pathways.

These are internal planning bands, not guaranteed awards. The final amount must remain within the applicable funder's rules and approved budget.

Community / Micro Grant

Up to USD 25,000

Small community activities, pilots, training, research preparation and local environmental action.

Growth Grant

USD 25,001–75,000

Expanded pilots, equipment, training, food-system activities, water initiatives and measurable community programmes.

Programme Grant

USD 75,001–150,000

Multi-site or multi-component programmes with defined implementation, monitoring, safeguards and partner roles.

Tier One

USD 150,000–300,000

Internal planning range for mission restart, humanitarian activities, research and implementation capacity.

Strategic / Multi-Year

USD 300,001+

Potential institutional, consortium or multi-year programmes requiring a funder that expressly permits the proposed scale.

In-Kind / Non-Cash Support

Value documented separately

Equipment, facilities, technical services, land access, research resources or other eligible contributions where permitted.

Lease & Use Structures

Separate the right to use an asset from ownership of the asset.

Where lawful and appropriate, implementation may use a documented lease, license or other use agreement. The structure depends on ownership, jurisdiction, funder rules, valuation, tax treatment and programme purpose.

Lease planning categories

  • Land / site lease — term, permitted use, location, maintenance and compliance responsibilities.
  • Facility lease — office, laboratory, training, aquaculture or community-use facilities where permitted.
  • Equipment lease — machinery, water systems, research equipment or operational assets with defined custody and maintenance.
  • Program-use license — limited rights to use intellectual property, data, facilities or other resources where appropriate.

Lease controls

  • Written agreement and identified parties.
  • Term, renewal, permitted use and termination provisions.
  • Fair and supportable pricing / valuation.
  • Funder restrictions checked before charging the programme.
  • Ownership remains distinct from temporary use rights.
  • Records retained for audit and reporting.
Asset Transfer Section

Asset contributions and transfers follow a separate control path.

An asset should not be treated as transferred merely because funding is approved. Ownership, title, custody, consideration, restrictions and the receiving entity must be documented and lawful.

1 · Identify

Describe the asset, current owner, location, condition, valuation basis and proposed use.

2 · Authorize

Confirm transfer authority and required approvals for the sending and receiving structures.

3 · Document

Use an appropriate bill of sale, assignment, deed, contribution agreement, lease or other instrument as applicable.

4 · Restrict

Record donor restrictions, grant conditions, liens, encumbrances, custody rules and permitted programme use.

5 · Record

Update the entity, asset and transaction registers and retain supporting evidence for accounting and compliance.

6 · Monitor

Track custody, maintenance, disposition and subsequent transfer according to the governing agreement.

Important: Grant proceeds, leased property and transferred assets are different legal and accounting categories. The Foundation will not represent a lease or asset transfer as a grant award, and PMA membership does not by itself establish ownership of Foundation assets.
Grant Initiative Register

Global platform, separate application tracks.

Initiatives are developed individually so each proposal can be matched to an appropriate funding source and implementation geography.

Grant Questionnaires

Every proposal starts with the right questions.

These preparation questionnaires capture the information needed to select an appropriate funding pathway. Completing a questionnaire does not constitute a grant application, approval or funding commitment.
